Description
Where an ordinary vase is round, the Shell Vase is flat and wide, like a shell standing upright. The ribs start together at the base and fan out upwards. At the top each rib ends in a rounded arch, so the edge undulates just like a real shell.
The scallop as a model
Scallops, including the great scallop, are recognisable by exactly that fan of ribs spreading out from a single point. It is one of the best known shell shapes. You find it in art and architecture, and as the symbol of the pilgrims' route to Santiago de Compostela.
With or without flowers
Because of its wide, flat shape, the Shell Vase looks best with something airy in it, such as a few dry grasses or a small dried bouquet. Left empty, it works as a shell-shaped object on a sideboard or windowsill. Loose water does not go in.
