How to recognise a 3D-printed vase

A 3D vase is built up layer by layer by the 3D printer. Those layers stay visible and tangible, and that is exactly what gives the piece its character: in raking light you see the lines run, up close you see the texture, from a distance only the shape. No two pieces are identical down to the layer.

Printing also allows shapes you will not easily find in glass or ceramics: twisted ribs, open structures and wavy walls that simply would not release from a mould. Every vase is checked and finished by hand here in The Hague.

Can a 3D-printed vase hold water?

Loose water does not belong in it: the layers of a print never close completely. For flowers on water, use a glass tube or an inner vase that slides in from the top, and fill only that. That keeps the vase dry while you can still change the water as usual. Dried flowers, pampas grass and silk flowers go straight in.

Why PETG and not PLA?

Many 3D-printed vases are printed in PLA. We print in PETG, which is tougher than the usual PLA. After printing, every piece is checked and finished by hand before it is sent to you.

Cleaning and where to put it

Cleaning is a matter of a damp cloth and lukewarm water. Keep the dishwasher and hot water away from it: plastic can deform slightly in heat. A spot in full afternoon sun is not the best choice for the same reason.

Which size suits your spot?

In the middle of a table a lower vase works best: at 23 cm tall you can still see over the Fractal when you sit down. The small Porto of 16 cm looks good on a windowsill, the large one of 20 cm asks for a little more room.

On the Porto you choose 16 or 20 cm tall, on the Alvor 18 or 25 cm, on the Aveiro 30 or 32 cm and on the Pinn 25, 30 or 32 cm tall. The Evora is 20 cm tall in white and 25 cm in black with gold. Some models come in one size: the Echo is 16.5 cm tall, Facet, Faro and Hive are 20 cm, Fractal 23 cm, Lucid 24 cm and Mafra 25 cm. The Apexis comes in the size 25 cm, the Vellis in 30 cm. For Ondula, Pora, Thyren, Vareon and Verdanelle the sizes are listed as three numbers in centimetres in the selection list on the product page.

No size listed for a model, or is the shape right but the size just off? Ask us: because every vase is printed to order, a different size is often possible.

Which colour should you choose?

Colours in the shop include white, black, beige and terracotta, plus brown, anthracite, olive green and sand. Many models come in one or two colours; the product page shows which.

A quiet shade lets the shape do the work, a strong colour makes the vase the centrepiece. The actual colour may differ slightly from how it looks on your screen; every piece is printed individually.

The shop holds over fifty vases, from 5.50 euro for a small model. On many models the price follows the size: a larger vase takes more material and more printing time.

Your order is made after payment and reaches you within five working days. Shipping within the Netherlands costs 5.95 euro and is free from 30 euro. After receipt you have 14 days to change your mind.
